The new capsule of Uniqlo UT for Jeff Koons
The new collaboration brings Koons' works to t-shirts and hoodies
October 19th, 2021
On 18 October Uniqlo launches in physical stores, and from 21 October on the online store, the first clothing capsule in collaboration with Jeff Koons, consisting of t-shirts and hoodies that depict some of the artist's most famous works through the graphic style of UT.
The capsule includes 8 items and five of Koons' most iconic and representative sculptures, such as Rabbit and Balloon Dog (Orange). Active for over 40 years, Jeff Koons is one of the greatest living artists - with works exhibited at the Guggenheim, the Prada Foundation and the MoMa. The artist's work has always focused on pop culture and the transformation of everyday objects such as balloons into sculptures, leading him to collaborate in the past with brands such as Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney.
The items that make up the collection will also be sold at the Quatar Museum in the IN-Q giftshop during the exhibition Jeff Koons: Lost in America, which will be inaugurated in November, while, by purchasing an item from the new collection online or at the Milan store, Italian customers will receive a discount code for the purchase of the entrance ticket to the artist's Shine exhibition, running until January 30, 2022 at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence.
Once again Uniqlo is the spokesperson for the profound link between fashion and art, actively collaborating with museums: already in 2013 the brand had organized together with MoMA UNIQLO Free Friday Nights, in which visitors obtained free admission to visit the collections of modern art, the exhibits and access to film screenings every Friday, and, the following year, he had launched the Surprise New York collection by placing works from the museum's collection on his garments with the aim of making modern art more accessible.
As John C. Jay, President of the brand's Global Creative said:
"At Uniqlo, our support and collaborations with artists express our desire to improve the lives of all people. Jeff Koons represents the positive power of art and its transformative ability that we are and the world around us Jeff Koons is a source of imagination and dedication and we are incredibly proud of our partnership."
For those wishing to buy the garments, the capsule will be available from 21 October on the website.
