Endelea's project to celebrate African creatives
A mini collection of T-shirts inspired by the theme of inner journey
July 8th, 2021
Ethical fashion brand Endelea presented Endelea Supports Black Art, a project born to celebrate the creativity of African artists through fashion. The first artist involved was Valerie Asiimwe Amani, chosen for her ability to courageously deal with strong and still quite unpublished themes for Tanzania such as feminism and women's rights. The artist made a work of art for Endelea and wrote the poem printed on the t-shirt. The artist said:
I think this T-shirt is a celebration of community and the vastness of our life experiences that shape us and inspire us to keep moving forward.
The T-shirt made in Tanzania is made of African organic cotton, certified for both material and ethical production. The proceeds from the sales will help support the activities of Nafasi Art Space, dar es Salaam's centre for contemporary art. The centre is an important meeting point for local artists and performers and is also the headquarters of Uhuru Republic, a collective of Italian and Tanzanian artists whose mission is to bring the two cultures closer together, Italian and Tanzanian, through music.
