The 500 personalities that shaped men's fashion
Phaidon's latest book retraces two centuries of men's fashion, from suits to streetwear
May 26th, 2021
After the success of the book Nike: Better is Temporary by Sam Grawe (who nss magazine interviewed last January), the British publishing house Phaidon continues its production of books dedicated to fashion history. In the roaster of new titles unveiled yesterday on Instagram, the Men's Fashion Book stands out, between a volume by Annie Leibovitz and a retrospective on Chanel's architecture.
Despite the still little information on the book, which comes as a natural sequel to The Fashion Book, Phaidon's bestseller that told in detail the history of women's fashion, what is certain is that this time it will be entirely dedicated to men's fashion. The Men's Fashion Book promises a 360-degree dive into the designers, photographers, icons and creatives who inspired and created the most memorable and revolutionary looks in men's fashion.
The volume, created in collaboration with Jacob Gallagher, men's fashion editor of Off Duty for the Wall Street Journal, traces two centuries of history, starting from the aristocratic elegance of the late nineteenth century to get to contemporary streetwear, showing how every moment in the history of fashion is linked to the previous one.
