The Balenciaga bag made like a sneaker

Balenciaga unveiled a few hours ago a new mobile phone bag called Sneakerhead whose construction is identical to that of the upper of one of the brand's sneakers, with the construction of mesh and faux leather inserts. The reproduction of the appearance of a sneaker, which winks at both the trend of DIY fashion that arose in pandemic and that of fashion-trolling, is so perfect that it even includes laces – used here as ribbons to decorate the sides of the bag.

The fact that the bag is called Sneakerhead suggests that the idea behind the accessory is to ironize on the hype culture on which Balenciaga founded its success but also to create a correspondence between the world of sneakers and that of bags – two of the main areas in which the hype culture has developed and which now find themselves mixed together with a bizarre and idiosyncratic effect.
