December 18th, 2020
Gucci is extending its influence in China with a new deal with Tmall to open two new digital flagship stores in the Tmall Luxury Pavilion – the leading online luxury retailer in China created by retail giant Alibaba. The first flagship will host the brand's clothing while the second will be dedicated to beauty products. Marco Bizzarri, CEO of the brand, said:
Gucci has strategically invested in and cultivated a ‘digital first’ approach globally, including the establishment of a dedicated Chinese digital ecosystem over the past years.
Launched in 2017, the Tmall Luxury Pavilion has quickly become an increasingly crucial gateway to China's luxury market for fashion brands and now has a consumer base of 750 million customers. Gucci's new partnership complements a digital strategy dedicated to the Chinese territory that has led the brand's sales in the Asian region to grow by 10.6% in the third quarter of 2020. An investment that will become even more important with the growing relevance of Chinese customers in the world of luxury.
