Magliano's perspective on the future of fashion We spoke with the designer on what he expects of the industry's future with an insight on the SS20 collection

The ongoing effects of the coronavirus has called into question our general perspectives on the future of the international fashion industry. Many people are expecting the industry to change in some ways whether it be less shows and production or an increase in interest in sustainable methods. Fashion houses like Saint Laurent have even already taken the initiative to rethink their role in the fashion system by removing themselves from the 2020 fashion calendars. Italy however, was one of the first countries to be gravely affected by the virus, and many of the country’s fashion houses and small brands are still in an unsure phase as they weather the storm, many like Giorgio Armani in high hopes that the fashion system must change following the health crisis. The younger brands in the local industry seem to be equally optimistic as well. Young menswear brand Magliano is one of those hoping for some change. Bolognese designer Luca Magliano has always offered an alternative unrefined perspective in the field of menswear which has helped to build a sort of euphemism on masculinity. nss magazine had a chat with the designer to find out  about his perspective on the industry’s future and the inspiration behind his SS20 collection.

Are there any specific changes that you are waiting to see in the fashion system post coronavirus?

For a while I hope the clothes will be less retouched. Communication should fill that gap, experiencing the maximum from the sensory point of view. After all this, I expect a world where everyone will often feel clandestine and outlawed out of necessity.

Has this experience change or influence your perspective on fashion in any way?

For the most part, no, my stance still remains. The human beings are ritual subjects above all, and these rites will return to be celebrated through special products and other over the top ways . At least, in my opinion...

Given the circumstances, will your latest  SS20 collection still be entirely produced and when will it be in stores?

The collection has already been produced and distributed very quickly, most of it is already been in stores and online for some time.

What was the main inspiration behind the collection ?

Mainly the libertine journeys in the summers of the early 80s, especially those than spoke towards  utopian paradises like Ibiza and Mykonos. From Mykonos, Greece as an archaic treasure chest of an erotic culture, to Kraximo by Paola Revenioti and to sexyness as an instrument of political vindication.

Considering that fashion week in June has been canceled. Will you be showing in September instead?

At this moment I can't say it but I would love for it to happen that way.

How have you spent this time during the quarantine? Tips?

By programming routines that, by time, I eventually disregarded. I feel like saying that porn and gin help but should be used in moderation. Otherwise reading continues to be the best way out.
