The new Prada Linea Rossa FW19: Prices and items
Presented by Willow Smith on the London Subway
October 8th, 2019
Yesterday Prada presented the new Linea Rossa collection, the second of the iconic line presented on the Milanese menswear and womenswear runways last January, during the FW19 shows. For the official launch, the brand has chosen the London Subway with an unexpected live show by Willow Smith at Tottenham Court station, Central Line stop: the 'red line' of the Tube.
The unconventional launch in the London underground recalls the story of Linea Rossa, the first real streetwear line launched by a high fashion brand. The first collection was released in 1997 to coincide with the first participation in Luna Rossa's American's Cup, with inspiration for technical cuts and materials that came from sailor clothing. Linea Rossa initially received no success in fashion mainstream, but was adopted by the London clubber and grime subculture - under the name of Prada Sport - based in London in the early 2000s, becoming over the years a cult for the world streetwear scene that will lead it to move towards a more urban and less sporty taste.
In addition to the aesthetic innovations, Prada has also experimented with fabrics, creating materials that are increasingly technological and focus on sustainability. Among the details of the garments, there are the heat-sealed seams, which ensure maximum waterproofing, the graphene padding, and the GoreTex microfibre, but also the Seamless three-dimensional Tecno mesh and a technical jersey made of recycled polyester fibres, recovered from the sea and the landfills.
