Earlier this year adidas and Foot Locker Europe unveiled their new collaborative project City series.
This is a series of limited edition sneakers created by local talents from Berlin, Paris, Milan and London and manufactured by Speedfactory, the German brand's production system that combines fully accelerated footwear production, open-source co-creation and localized production so that products move from concept to point of sale in impressive speeds. The key feature is that each shoe represents the DNA of its respective city. The first model to start the experiment is the Speedfactory AM4 CP Berlin, dedicated to the German capital and conceived by DJ Inan with the desire to give visibility to Berlin street style. Playing with classic streetwear and sophisticated design, the artist infused the graphic design of the shoe with the history of the city linked to the famous wall erected after the Second World War. Inan said:
“Berlin is known for its history of segregation. A city that was divided by walls, borders, barriers and barbed wire fences. But it’s also known for its vibrant mix of colors, cultures and an unbreakable creative spirit that has always found its way through walls and barriers, across borders and fences. The black and white parts represent the darkest history of Berlin, which was divided by a dark, cold and oppressive concrete wall, wrapped in barbed wire. The colorful parts represent the creativity and spirit of the Berliners who have always tried to overcome the wall and still today make the city and its inhabitants so extraordinary.”
These reflections resulted in a sneaker characterized by a white, black and yellow textile upper, with graphics depicting barbed wire, walls and abstract lines. On the heel you can read the laser incision "The World's Too Small for Walls".
