Karl Lagerfeld's last interview

Karl's last considerations on fashion in a podcast published by Chanel right before the FW19 show

Karl Lagerfeld's last interview Karl's last considerations on fashion in a podcast published by Chanel right before the FW19 show

In the last day of Paris Women's Fashion Week Chanel is about to present its FW19 collection. What is sad is knowing that, after the Fendi show of last week in Milan, this will be the last collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld
Yesterday the Parisian Maison decided to gift us with the last image of the genius German designer, releasing exclusively one of his last interviews, for the first of four podcasts of the series 3.55. The interview was made in December, at the Métiers d'Art Show in New York, after the presentation of the Pre-Fall 2019 collection, and it was conducted by Tyler Brûle, Editor-In-Chief of the American magazine Monocle

Karl, during this very honest and intimate dialogue, talks about himself and the Maison. He explains how bad taste was born with the industrialisation and that's why Chanel still represents an exclusivity, a unique example both for its past and its present.
Lagerfeld reflects clearly on the state of fashion, believing that France's strength lies in its traditions, as important as following the natural flow of time, far from impositions and overall structures. Talking about the creative process, Karl is convinced of the need of being aware of the time we're living, improvising can never be enough, what matters are talent and professionalism. Lagerfeld explains how French magazines are worse than the American, English and German ones, but also of the value of collaborations, fundamental nowadays because they allow getting to know new realities.

Karl defines social media as unnecessary because they distract from work, and he reckons himself a lucky person, thanks also to his special bond with his cat Choupette, "only interested in her beauty", talking about her very affectionately. Karl refers to the importance of Spinoza, as well as philosophy and the city of Milan, especially for the Salone del Mobile, to keep updated on the latest design innovations.

Along with the one dedicated to the late designer, the series Mètier Class By Chanel will include three more podcasts, which will see the participation of Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel President of Fashion, Pharrell Williams and Amanda Harlech.
