Céline comes back to life
Thanks to an Instagram page and its brand new merch

When a few months ago it was announced that Hedi Slimane had been appointed as the new creative director of Celine (immediately deprived of its accent), in the fashion world arised two different sides, one pro Slimane and one cons. The distance between the two got even bigger after Slimane's debut show for Celine during the last Paris Fashion Week, after which the most loyal fans of the French fashion house couldn't get over the departure of Phoebe Philo.
The nostalgia for the British designer and her refined, sophisticated but always wearable fashion, produced its first effects on Instagram, where the young Canadian girl Gabrielle Boucinha has decided to walk us through the ten years of Phoebe Philo at the helm of Céline. The Ig account @oldceline is a real archive of the most iconic shows, items, and campaigns of the brand, a very unforgettable aesthetic. What Gabrielle was not expecting was a feedback of this kind. Her followers are not only fashion enthusiasts or bloggers, but also influencers with a huge following and prominent personalities of the fashion world, first and foremost Virgil Abloh. Her page can now boast more than 190k followers.
The hashtag #oldceline gathers all the pictures - more than 20k and counting - that feature bags, jewels, shoes and coats from the Philo era. Along with the growing of Old Céline, people started looking for all kinds of accessories designed by the former creative director on the websites of second hand and vintage stores. Items to treasure and to show off on Instagram.
Now Gabrielle has decided to take the further step, giving life to the real Old Céline merchandise: a series of T-shirts, both for men and women, and a cashmere scarf with the now famous claim Old Céline may cause strong feelings of nostalgia, or with the simple logo of Old Céline. To feel nostalgic while still being cool.
The items are available on oldceline.com.
