UNDERCOVER SS19: “The Seventh Sense”
A mix of pop tributes that goes from Ziggy Stardust to "Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel"
September 26th, 2018
Jun Takahashi announced it after last season: UNDERCOVER says no more to the women's collections.
And it has kept its promise, presenting for the next SS19 The Seventh Sense, a lookbook that contains within it seven souls, each with its own universe to explore. The eclectic project opens with a series of looks inspired by the photographs of Mick Rock to David Bowie in Ziggy Stardust version, with the alter ego of the iconic star printed on silk trousers, shirts and bomber, but also recalled by buttons to star shape.
The second and third parts, portray a group of girls on a flowery meadow, dressed in long dresses with pleated floats covered with colored polka dots and another group inside a forest, with torn jeans, oversized T-shirts, shirts and hooded sweatshirts, complete with bowler hats, all completely white, a clear reference to the Droogs of A Clockwork Orange. Remember Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel, the famous 80s cartoon? The face of the protagonist with lilac hair and her cats, Nega & Poji, make a series of more street looks special, composed of woolen pants with sequins, translucent blue parka, red berets and oversized MA-1 jackets. More conceptual are the garments that reveal the planets of space in ultraviolet light, all-over prints and embroideries, which are also allusions to the découpage works of the artist John Derian. Equally cryptic are the images that portray, inserted in familiar contexts, tall models totally dressed in black, which shoot laser beams from the eyes. Despite the many souls, Takahashi remains faithful to the aesthetics that made his brand famous, thanks to a captivating all-over mix and a bright tonality, influences borrowed from pop culture. To make the SS19 collection by UNDERCOVER more special is the Waffle Racer sneaker in collaboration with Nike, available in green, red, black, blue.
