Diesel collaborates with Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap We look closer at both the collection and the Kebap

We’re in Berlin for bread&&butter where we can lift the veil on a quite unusual collaboration to say the least. In a time where collaborations are the hot trend for many brands, with each brand trying to out do the other in finding the coolest label to work with to gain true street credibility the challenge can quickly become daunting. In a very hands-on approach Diesel for their latest collaboration as opted for a technique that is quite genius in its irony.

How do you find the most requested brand in the city? Simple, just look at where you find the coolest people lining up, and no its not at the Techno temple Berghain, though the cue can sometimes rival it, we are talking about the legendary Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap. Mustafa is an icon in Berlin and its kebaps are so tasty and mouth-watering, that people will wait for hours and hours just to indulge one of its delicious creations.

Berlin the heathen capital of Europe is known for many things, freedom, techno music, and of course, the döner kebap. So lets take the occasion in hand to have a look at the history of why Berlin has become the kebap capital of western Europe. Berlin has the biggest Turkish population outside of Turkey, and in certain areas, like for example Kreuzberg the influence runs so deep that when entering its ubahn (metro) stations one will often find advertisements posted on walls in duplicates, with one version in German and the other in Turkish. Though the Kebab, which in its original meaning simply implies meat on skewers, dates back many hundreds of thousands of years in the Middle East, the iteration most of us know, in its ‘sandwich’ form, is widely attributed to being ‘invented’ in Germany by Turkish born German Kadir Norman in 1972. As time went on hundreds of Döner kebab places now flourish all over Berlin, but one, in particular, has for many become the true king of kebab in Berlin, Mustafa’s. With lines that often last for hours, his quality ingredients and particularly his secret sauces have raised him above his fellow kebab makers to make him a true Berlin icon. So much so that the legend states that theres a fair number of women who have offered Mustafa their hand in marriage to be forever bound to his delectations.

He’s such an icon that Diesel together with Mustafa today presented their collaborative capsule collection. Obviously, with a healthy dose of satire towards the current state of the industries obsessions with collaborations, the capsule includes sweatshirts, T-shirts, and caps with graphic interpretations of both the Diesel and Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap logos. That will surely become objects of worship for a group of well-informed fashionistas who do not take themselves too seriously. Each piece will be a must-have, in an unmissable limited edition release, this new approach to collaboration has the guarantees to be truly unique. Spicy, impertinent and full of taste, like Mustafa kebap’s the garments will be only be produced in limited edition numbered series.

Presented today Bread & Butter Festival in Berlin on August 31st. It will later be available online at Diesel and in select Diesel stores worldwide, starting from the 3rd of September.
