Nike Flyprint: the 3D printed shoe
Nike at work to improve the performances of the faster marathon runner ever with completely 3D printed upper
April 18th, 2018
We are used to be surprised by the technological innovations that brands can create and use to improve the performances of their products and athletes. Nike since the beginning has this objective: combining innovation and technology to help people to reach always better results.
How Nike could help to be faster the only person on earth that was able to run the marathon distance in 2h00’25”?
Nike Flyprint is the new 3D-print technology developed by Nike that could help Eliud Kipchoge to break the 2 hours wall.
This time the scientists of Nike haven’t worked on a footwear tooling solution as they did with the first shoe of the Kenyan runner, the VaporFly Elite. They moved their focus on a 3D-printed textile upper, created following the analysis of the athletes performances.
The process to develop the Flyprint uppers begins by capturing strategic athlete’s data. Those data was then computed to affirm the ideal composition of the material, and finally, that information was employed to produce the final textile.
In short, Nike Flyprint allows to create the perfect material, for the perfect shoe, for each athlete improving his/her performances.
That’s the reason why this technology is used for the first time on the hyper-performance oriented shoe, the VaporFly Elite, making it 11g lighter.
This innovative approach brings the shoe sector always more to an higher level, and a technology as the 3D printing could find unlimited usages in the performance and lifestyle shoes of the future.
This video will help you to understand the process behind the Flyprint technology.
