The Nike Air Max 97/1 Sean Wotherspoon: where everything started
A sneaker that can be combined with anything that is vintage
March 21st, 2018
Exactly one year ago, Nike decided to open a contest, involving different designers and artists from different cities around the world, from Europe to Japan to America.
The contest consisted in recreating the design and modifying the silhouette of a Nike Air Max, also mixing various models, from the Air Max 93 to the Air Max 90 to the Air Max 97 and so on... once all the 12 sneakers were unveiled from different artistsaround the world, it was up to the public to decide which sneakers bring to life, voting and influencing to vote the sneakers that they liked most, each using their own methods, as did Sean Wotherspoon, who put in every own shop one screen on which the costumers could vote for his design, a very clever gesture on his part that in fact has achieved excellent results!
The winner of this competition was Sean Wotherspoon, the owner of the now famous and well known Los Angeles store, Round Two Hollywood, leaving behind Artemy Lebedev from Russia and Bunyamin Aydin from Turkey, who thanks to his fame and dedication, and to the help from a team of trusted friends including Ben Baller and A$AP Nast, overlapping different ideas and different opinions, he managed to create with Nike his sneaker, which, as he says:
"...is the dream of every sneaker collector or sneaker lover!".
The sneakers was studied and completely redesigned. The upper was taken by an Air Max 97 made by overlapping different colors in Corduroy, giving it that vintage look of the 80s that Sean loves a lot, while the midsole used was the classic white midsole of Air Max 1, creating a totally new and captivating mix with a retro touch!
On the occasion of the announcement of his winnings, Nike organized an event in the streets of the city of angels, where part of Wotherspoon's collection was exhibited and where the surprise performance of La Flame aka Travis Scott's guests was held, a famous American rapper/trapper, a great supporter of the project and a 360 degree swoosh lover.
And here we are, a year later, arrived at that eagerly awaited day that everyone was waiting for, the Air Max Day, which this year will have something special, the release of the Air Max 97/1 by Sean Wotherspoon!
What can we say? All that remains is to wait for the day of the official release that will take place this Saturday March 24th through SNKRS app and at selected retailers at the price of €161.
