Adam Selman FW18: the cool and playful side of the 80s
A tribute to the surreal style of Guy Bourdin's photography and Cheyco Leidmann's provocative aestethics

You cannot outlive the 80s.
Manuel Agnelli and the Afterhours knew it well, but looking at the last Adam Selman show, getting trapped in that decade is not always a bad thing.
The New York designer lets himself be captivated for this last FW18 collection by the glamorous and playful side of the era and rework shapes and style, inspired by Guy Bourdin's surreal photography and Cheyco Leidmann's provocative aesthetics.
The powerful images, from saturated colors to fluorescent shades and the muse Ypsitylla Von Nazareth of the guru who shaped the 1980s imagery, together with the ironic and sexually suggestive greeting cards of illustrators Paper Moon Graphics, become prints and leitmotivs of the whole FW18 collection.
The hand with red lacquered nails that squeezes a piece of mortar and the girl riding a giant banana are pop, fun and daring elements that make captivating t-shirts and prom-style mini dresses, simple V-neck pullovers and oversized blazers, jeans and silk shirts.
Selman reminds us of the cool side of America in the 80s.
