Alexander Wang SS18: #WANGFEST
When the road becomes a catwalk
September 10th, 2017
For his SS18 collection, Alexander Wang chooses the formula of the traveling show in three stops (outside the restaurant, Astor Place; Bushwick, Brooklyn) flying catwalk, more a stylish rave party than just a fashion show.
THE RUNWAY
#WangFest is a tribute to New York, a kind of open rave party that has brought its cool crew of people around the city with a tour bus like real rock stars. And like them, the girls cross the street showing Wang’s pieces for the next spring-summer, with on the sides the audience watching them, including Kim Kardashian with her mother Kris Jenner, and around security agents, including some on board Harley Davidson, to control the situation.
THE WANGSQUAD
Kia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford, opens the show followed by Suki Waterhouse, Alice Dellal, Natalie Westling, Cat McNeil, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Candice Swanepoel, Anna Evers, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid.
THE COLLECTION
The model gotha remains faithful to the party atmosphere and wears crowns, a work by the king of fashion lovers Stephen Jones, with the words “Wangover” or “Party animal”; but also mini corsets; ripped jeans; t-shirts artfully twisted; jackets, seemingly cut in half, turned into; shorts in denim over leather pants; a rain of studs and zippers; extra sleeves worn as belts; pieces of collaboration with adidas featured by the iconic three stripes.
"It was this idea that I wanted to do something really optimistic and playful" - Wang says - "You go into your closet and just play dress-up. Maybe you don’t know where to go or what to do, but putting on the clothes and styling yourself inspires you to do something".
At the end of the presentation, the real fun begins with a big after party including bouncy castles, giant ice sculptures, candles, alcohol, and mountains of donuts.
