CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC SS18 collection was all about American Horror
A new aggressive sensuality that transcends the genre and wants to represent the new direction CK is moving towards

CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC SS18 is the logical continuation of the American experiment by Raf Simons.
If in his previous Calvin Klein FW17 collection, Raf Simons focused on the American myth of the prairies and cowboys with abundant fringes and tepee references, a mass scene of that American dream represented also in the FW17 campaign, the SS18 is instead a representation of Raf Simons' passion for Hollywood's horror culture.
Long dresses with 50's silhouettes recalling Carrie's nightgown, alternating with spray on pants and shirts like American Psycho's splashes and camcorders of the big old America movie stars. Lights and shadows. The entire collection can be read and rewritten infinitely under different reading keys but with a single fil rouge, "American Horrors, American Dreams". This eclectic collection that mixes Texans satin with vintage silhouettes made of industrial fabrics such as nylon and rubber, meshes contrasted with linen and silk, gives rise to a new aggressive sensuality that transcends the genre and wants to represent the new Calvin Klein taste in an exploration of the complexity of American culture in its entirety.
In the background, Sterling Ruby's installation works as a landscape, a context, for a collection that plays with reconditioning where horror is transformed into beauty.
“It’s about American horror and American beauty,” ha dichiarato Raf Simons.
“Fashion tries to hide the horror and embrace only beauty. But they are both a part of life. This collection is a celebration of that: a celebration of American life.”
