Everything you need to know about the Met Gala 2017
From the weird Jaden Smith's handbag to Rihanna's crazy dress
May 2nd, 2017
Last night the Met Gala 2017 took place, the Oscars red carpet of fashion who every year put the most relevant celebs under the spotlight on the occasion of the opening of the annual exhibition dedicated to a theme or star of fashion.
This year, as you all know, the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York wanted to pay a tribute to the Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo with the retrospective Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between who explores the “materials” and stylistic experimentations, even the conceptual contradictions, who have always marked the visionary work of this revolutionary woman.
So, it's no easy feat for all the guests of Met Gala to be able to pay a tribute to such important creative genius. Many of them have succeeded in this, daring fearlessly “extravagant” dress, elegantly extreme, like conceptual artworks as Rei Kawakubo's spirit wants while, many others, have preferred not to risk, by choosing for a more traditional dress code.
If you missed the Met Gala red carpet, here are the 10 most important moments you have to see absolutely.
#1 Jaden Smith
Will Smith's genius son attended the party with his head shaved and a handbag created with his cut deadlocks. Furthermore, his total-Louis Vuitton look included a pair of heeled boots, in perfect balance with that gender-neutral style who Rei Kawakubo would certainly have appreciated.
#2 Sean “Diddy” Combs
Well known as Puff Daddy, the rapper-producer laid on the staircase of the Metropolitan Museum of Art while his girlfriend Cassie posing in front of the photographers.
"I was getting tired so I laid down on the stairs!!!", Sean explained later on Instagram.
#3 Wiz Khalifa
The rapper attended the red carpet with a white suit with black details by Thom Browne, but the real accessory who has caused a debate was certainly the blunt he smoked in front of everyone. Well, a controversial act who could be in line with the unconventional spirit of the Japanese fashion designer.
#4 Lena Dunham
The long, one-shoulder dress of the actress and producer of Girls maybe could not surprise but, if you blink your eyes, you will notice a very little detail you mustn't underestimate. In fact, Lena had a little Planned Parenthood pin, the collective of American non-profit organizations who provide and fight for equal health care.
#5 Courtney Love and Francis Bean Cobain
The singer attended the red carpet with her 24-years-old daughter Francis Bean, both wearing Marc Jacobs - who joined the couple during the night.
#6 Helen Lasichanh
Those of Pharrell Williams's wife maybe has been the most chatted – and mocked – dress of the night, attacked by thousands memes and comments on social networks - even though it has been one of the most Kawakubesque. To you the decision.
#7 The Weeknd and Selena Gomez
The love story between the two singers is now official and last night the couple gave proof of their love with public tender gestures of affection.
#8 Kardashian-West
After the unforgettable appearances of last years, this time the couple Kardashian-West didn't take part to the night. In fact, some sources say that Kanye West would have preferred to stay in Los Angels with his two babies, North and Saint, while Kim attended the red carpet on solo in a total-white dress by Vivienne Westwood.
#9 Rihanna
After skipped the last edition, maybe the singer has not been on the Anna Wintour's blacklist and she took part at this year party with a crazy dress by COMME des GARÇONS who reminded all the guests that the dress code must be taken very seriously.
#10 Katy Perry
Note of merit for the American singer who attended the party with a flaming red dress by Maison Margiela Artisanal, with tulle veil, who turned the singer into a theatrical drama-queen. God job, Katy!
