Nike Air VaporMax: 30 years of Air technology
A celebration of latest Nike' success in occasion of the Air Max Month
March 21st, 2017
30 years to become a cultural code.
7 years of planning.
3 billion of bearings.
Hundreds of patents.
One pair of sneakers: Air VaporMax.
In 1987, Nike was trying to create a shoe that would allow running on the air and, on March 26, Tinker Hatfield created the first model with air cushions on the heel in sight.
This cushioning experiment quickly becomes an icon not only of the world of athletics but also in street style.
Now to celebrate this important anniversary the footwear object evolves: the airbag becomes fully visible, the upper is made with flexible Flyknit technology, rubber sections on the sole offer excellent traction. One of the most revolutionary shoe ever.
Brett Holts, Nike Senior Design Director, emphasizes it:
"The Vapormax is the closest thing to the original dream of running directly on the air. It is the product that has haunted our innovation team, the design and manufacturing experts, marketing, who is in charge of color and design concept, merchandising, sales team. 150 experts have embarked on the journey of Vapormax".
