Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. What are the pros and cons of online classes?
My Institute was one of the first in organizing the system of online classes. At first I thought that it was impossible to teach through a screen disciplines like the ones we study; the exchange face-to-face and physical contact are capital parts of the fashion industry. Today, I see that it is much more hard to create some of our designs, for example because we have new teachers or people that we didn't know before the emergency. Online classes from home make everything a little colder. On the other side, it is obvious that it is much more comfortable, especially for my classmates who live far from school and travel everyday to be in class (even though this is not my case). Personally, I think that we can't even compare the atmosphere that we live when we all are in the same room, each one of us with different ideas and a creative mind.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the COVID-19 emergency. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what will be the worst consequences of this crisis?
The world will need its time to recover, and when it will recover it is not going to be the same. The virus completely unmasked our society's consumerism, along with all those negative habits that we didn't even realize that were nocive. Fashion was not spared from this crisis: its rhythms were impossibile and extreme and suddenly they seem useless. There is no doubts that this crisis will cause many losses, to fashion, design and any other industry. And there is no doubt that consumers will change for good, becoming more cautious for what concerns big brand names. We will pay more attention in what we buy and what brands to with their productions. Although, I think that this crisis will make our industri start back on the right foot, with a brand new ethic. Despite the difficult situation, we were gifted of the chance to start back from zero.
Your work is built on creativity. Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
My solution to keep being creative is to isolate me in a world that is all of my own: I listen to some music, YK Osiris, Drake and Kaytranada are my favorite; I play a movie or a tv series, sci-fi and adventure movies make me dream and suddenly I am a child again, while horror and thriller movies, with their monsters, are a huge source of inspiration for my aesthetic; when the sun hits my garden, I always stay in the backyard to feel breathe some fresh air.
