Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. What are the pros and cons of online classes?
After the first week of quarantine, my school - Accademia Belle Arti Aldo Galli di Como - has immediately started the online classes. Both students and teachers have been ready to adapt. Being always at home, you can work much more and you can share your files via e-mail. Of course there are some cons, first of all the lack of fabrics, and not everyone of us has a sewing machine at home, so the practical part of our work is slowed down. The fact that we can't see each other means that we can't have a direct confrontation with our professors, so they don't get to know who we really are.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the COVID-19 emergency. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what will be the worst consequences of this crisis?
The fashion world is suffering and will suffer because of this situation. The worst consequence has already been the cancelation of fashion shows, everything is going to happen online and this is not good. We are registering a decrease in selling, people can't spend that much. Beside, it will be hard for my generation to find a job in a world where professionals are already being fired.
Your work is built on creativity. Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
I think that creativity is a gift that any pandemic can stop it. Everything can be inspirational: a tv series, a movie, an article on a magazine, a photoshoot. Being at home, we have the opportunity to be even more creative and to give life to something new with what we have in our hands.
