Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. What are the pros and cons of online classes?
Since the first news about the virus coming from China, IED faced the situation with seriousness and promptness. Even when the pandemic was already started, all the teachers and the staff have been available and helpful in supporting us in this very delicate moment, as the development of a graduation thesis. Online classes are a great solution, the let students go on with their works, to take their exams in a peaceful environment like their homes and to share their ideas with their schoolmates during revision sessions. Personally, as a fashion student, online classes can be limiting, too. There are some practical subjects as illustrations, modeling or embroidery that needed to be re-organized due to this emergency.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the COVID-19 emergency. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what will be the worst consequences of this crisis?
The crisis brought down the Italian fashion industry. The Made in Italy, that is always been the biggest pride of our economy, was born from small family-run industries that pass on from father to children their artisanal skills and techniques. As a consumer and as a future insider, I have always admired and favorited Italian products, from shoes to their fabrics. The Italian product has a unique attention to details, and this is born from the unique know-how of our Country. In my opinion, the worst consequence of this crisis will be the disappearance of these small activities; they could not be able to start again, and that would mean a serious loss for the industry of Made in Italy.
Your work is built on creativity. Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
Creativity feeds on every hint. In this period, I noticed that now we are looking from a different perspective everything that we took for granted in our home. We hane new eyes, a brand new curiosity, as if we are seeing them for the first time. For example, the shapes of the buildings out of the terrace, or the flowers blossoming on our balcony: they all become hints for new shapes and colors. At the same time we have art books, online documentaries and various formats on social medias that help our creativity and stimulate it.
