Schools have been among the first institutions to adapt to the new measures of quarantine. How did your school react to the state of emergency? In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of online classes?
The fashion institute that I attend, IUAD ACADEMY OF FASHION, immediately tried to calm their students looking for the best solutions to overcome this "dark period" and starting online lessons about 2 weeks after the start of the pandemic. Personally, I prefer the normal lessons for various reasons, the most important in my opinion is the face-to-face speech with the teachers, especially with practical courses, such as modeling, accessory design or CAD. The only "pro" of online lessons is that I don’thave to travel by train 3 hours a day, which I can now take advantage of at home.
The Fashion and Design Industries have been aggressively afflicted by the state of quarantine and social distancing. As a consumer, but also as a future insider of those systems, what do you think the worst consequences of this crisis will be?
I think that the effects of the Corona virus have heavily damaged the Fashion System, especially small businesses. Since the arrival of the virus in Italy, on February 21, 2020, right before the Milan Fashion Week, started the absence of many buyers at the various fashion shows. Many activities of the companies have been postponed, such as photo shoots, press reports, and also important fashion shows of well-known Italian brands. In my opinion, the worst consequences are going to be the unsold goods during this pandemic period and sales will continue to be affected in the coming years.
Your work is built on creativity. While we’re all in quarantine, what is your solution to keep on being creative? Where do you find your inspiration in this moment?
During this period of quarantine, even smallest things were a starting point for me, especially the most unexpected things, such as a simple bracelet with a particular weave. I had the opportunity to look around , to to hear the sound and smell of the sea from afar. In my opinion, the solution to keep being creative in this period is to never give up, to continue drawing, planning, not taking anything for granted.
