Is Kanye West selling his 'Famous' statues?
In the meantime, you can see them in LA
September 2nd, 2016
Kanye West, as well as being a rapper, beatmaker, producer and fashion designer, is an art lover. The artist is known for his installations and performative works, the fruit of his improvisation and experience in the starbiz.
In June, the US rapper has managed to capture everyone's attention thanks to the video for his track Famous, where he's filmed in a big bed together with silicone statues of famous people such as George Bush, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Donald Trump, Anna Wintour and his wife Kim Kardashian. During the last weekend, on August 27 and 28, he exposed the 13 statues at the Blum & Poe's gallery in NY, inspired by Vincent Desiderio's work Sleep. Today the statues are on display in Los Angeles and there was a rumor that they were going to be sold for up to $ 4 million. Among the hypothetical offers also Scooter Braun's one, Justin Bieber's manager.
Kanye’s team has denied, for the moment: “Once again we are flattered by such interest, but as far as Mr. West is concerned – it’s all about the art. We are looking forward to announcing when Famous will be available again for viewing.”
Collectors around the world will have to wait some more time...
