Louise Bourgeois: Structures of Existence
@ Guggenheim Bilbao
April 6th, 2016
"My name is Louise Josephine Bourgeois. I was born on December 24 in Paris. All my work of the last fifty years, all my subjects have drawn inspiration from my childhood. My childhood has never lost its magic, it has never lost its mystery and has never lost its drama".
So Louise Bourgeois spoke of herself. Parisian artist, solitary person, not linked to trends, who has followed her artistic career with tenacity, looking through the art of surviving family tensions, poeticising childhood trauma, to create an internal dialogue between her autobiographical story of which his works are the symbols, and the spectator who enjoys them, almost in a mutual catharsis.
Her artistic research, at first only painting, was focused on surreal inspirations, and then moved to sculpture to investigate psyche and sexuality, as if they were in an unresolved trauma circuit.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao pays homage to the artist, with an intense exhibition dedicated to her complex soul, personified in her works.
The exhibition is open to the public until September 4, 2016.
