In 1886, writer Jean Moréas published on a page of Le Figaro the manifesto of symbolist poetry, also addressed to painting and other art forms.
In the art field symbolism meant the fusion of spiritual and sensorial elements: the painting that originated was extremely refined and full of mythological symbols, and aimed to explore regions of the human conscience at the boundary between reality and dream.
The exhibition at Palazzo Reale in Milan pays tribute to this original and intriguing art trend, through an accurate selection of significant works that investigate the essence of the deepest nature of Symbolism.
From February 2 to June 5, 2016.
