An art installation has been thrown away by a group of cleaners art mistaken for trash

Sometimes the language of contemporary art may appear scrambled. The group of cleaners who mistook a valuable art installation for a bunch of garbage at the Museion in Bolzano, Italy, knows that very well. Called "Where shall we go dancing tonight?", the work was a project of Milanese artists Sara Goldschmied and Eleonora Chiari inspired by the hedonistic atmosphere of the 80s.

The installation consisted of a room where the soil was completely covered with confetti, cigarette butts and empty bottles, as well as a disco ball, some mirrors and a metallic banner. The cleaners thought it was the chaos left after a party the night before, and didn’t hesitate to place the "garbage" in the containers, making sure that all the materials were divided correctly for being recycled.

Fortunately, someone noticed the mistake before the bags containing the pieces of the work were taken away from the local trash truck: now the museum intends to patch up the structure and apologizes with the visitors for the inconvenience.

It is not the first time an artist is the victim of a cleaner: in 2001 also the renewed Damien Hirst found out his installation made out of ashtrays, beers and coffee cups had been thrown away.

Never underestimate the importance of art education at school.
