Guy Bourdin: Image-Maker
at Somerseth House, London
November 28th, 2014
Painted nails 80s pin up a bit 'vulgar, attitude and mawkish sfacciatezza, in photographs of the legendary Guy Bourdin: Bourdin was the first photographer to create a complex narrative, made up of elements sensual, provocative, shocking, surreal and sometimes disturbing from associate fashion items.
Bourdin's style was influenced by that of his mentor Man Ray, the photographer Edward Weston, by surrealist painters Magritte and Balthus and director Luis Buñuel. Although much less known to the general public compared to his colleague Helmut Newton (who was also in force in Vogue), Bourdin was perhaps the most influential on subsequent generations of fashion photographers.
If you're ever in London for the event, or if you live there, in short, do not miss the exhibition Image-Maker, to be held at Somerset House in London, from 27 November 2014-15 March 2015.
