Hikari Shimoda - Children of this planet
Disturbing paintings
June 4th, 2014
Children's eyes are a guarantee of purity, are an expression of peace "intact" is not contaminated by the world; a shelter and a smile that gives relief to those people instead now grown ( bad! ) and tormented by life ever.
In the eyes of the children painted by Hikari Shimoda, however, there is something quite different: are empty, scary, sinister, and imbued with unresolved trauma .
The horns , the clouds, backgrounds dark , the stars hung from the neck reminiscent of those that "signaled" being Jewish during the Holocaust , depicting children who themselves are the monsters of their deepest fears .
The bright colors , the delicate lines fail to alleviate the tension ' horror ' that emanate these characters featured in children, but their children are not .
I wonder if Hikari Shimoda still afraid of the dark, if you still believe in monsters under the bed ... I wonder what Freud would say about her!
What gives of himself in his works certainly tells much about his past as well , and certainly managed to leave , artistically , a trace of something that in the end in itself has not vanished completely ...
