Mackintosh's Glasgow School of Art on fire International tragedy

Is still assessing the damage from that , a few days ago , the flames resulting from the explosion of a projector have caused the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Building , Glasgow, home of the Glasgow School of Art

When Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed the building , she felt inspired by a new philosophy - linked to the creation of practical and functional design - that was spreading across Europe : the Modernist movement.

Although he was considered one of the pioneers of the movement, the idea of Mackintosh was to build something around the needs of the people: people seen, not as masses, but as many individuals who needed no machines for a living, but works of art. Mackintosh took his inspiration from Scottish origin and mixed it with the flowering of Art Nouveau and the simplicity of Japanese forms.

While operating in the field of architecture, Charles Rennie Mackintosh developed his own style , characterized by the contrast between strong and accurate corners and floral motifs with delicate curves : an example is the rose motif , used together with some references to traditional Scottish architecture . That of the Glasgow School of Art , in the years 1897-1909, he was the project which increased its international reputation.

In a national survey of the building had been judged to be the most significant built in Britain over the last 175 years.

A real blow to the heart and an international tragedy , which will hopefully have reported little damage as possible in order to still be considered and lived as the undisputed temple of art, architecture , design and above all of revolutionary ideas.
