Save the date - Stanley Kubrick photography in Naples

Dal 13 luglio al 9 settembre 2012 al Pan di Napoli si apre la mostra di Stanley Kubrick fotografo. Un aforisma molto noto dice che quando un regista muore diventa fotografo, per Kubrick è vero il contrario. 168 scatti sviluppati dai negativi dell’archivio della rivista Look magazine, con la quale il regista diciassettenne lavorò fino all’età di 21 anni.

Il secondo piano del Pan è tutto occupato dalle diverse storie narrate dal grande regista, amante del paradosso, con una grande capacità di saper cogliere ciò che vi era di interessante nei soggetti. Ogni sala racchiude un episodio, raccontato con realismo e precisione. Tra gli scatti si fa notare il grande pugile Roy Graziano, la cui passione per il cinema neorealista italiano era ben nota, i divi hollywoodiani ritratti senza tanti fronzoli ma di stupefacente impatto visivo per l’intimità che si instaura tra loro e Kubrick fotografo. Fotografia quindi come stadio iniziale, come stato embrionale di un genio che stava per nascere e che avrebbe dato ai posteri la più dirompente e innovativa produzione cinematografica.

Spiegare le fotografie, come avrebbe affermato Kubrick, non ha senso, ha solo un superficiale significato culturale. Per apprezzare appieno la mostra, bisogna lasciarsi turbare dalle verità che ci vengono svelate, immergersi nell’universo dei personaggi ritratti. La tappa napoletana dell’esposizione sul regista-fotografo, coprodotta dal Comune di Napoli, in collaborazione con il Museum of the City of New York e Musées Royaux Des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, è di facile fruizione grazie alla divisione tematica delle sale e ai pannelli esplicativi.

From July the 13 and September the 9 2012, at the Pan of Naples starts the Stanley Kubrick photographer exhibition. 168 pictures from the archive of Look Magazine, where the film maker has worked from the age of 17 to 21. The second floor of the Pan is dedicated to the display of the several stories discovered by the film maker. Kubrick is not only a fantastic film maker but also a smart photographer. He succeed in finding the right shot for the right subject. 

Among the pictures we have the great boxer Roy Graziano, Hollywood celebrities described as human beings. Photography as a first step from which it grows up a real genius in the movie field. 

The Neapolitan stop of the exhibition, co-produced with the Comune di Napoli, in collaboration with the Museum of the City of New York and Musées Royaux Des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, it’s really easy to understand thanks to the room’s division in thematic areas and the explicative panels.
