The first Italian exhibition on NFTs arrives in Milan
It is called "2121 - Crypto Art is now" and will be held at the Museum of the Permanente
November 23rd, 2021
Imagining the art of the future is the goal, already present from the title, of 2121 – Crypto Art is now, an exhibition that will mark the debut of NFT and crypto-art within an Italian museum, in this case at the DART | Dynamic Art Museum of the Permanente in Milan. The exhibition, which opens today and will last until February 6, will collect the works of 70 of the most important digital artists in the world, and will include both totally digital works and the digitization of physical works through blockchain and NFT systems. During the entire duration of the exhibition, DART and the Wrong Theory group, whose founders also collaborated in the curation of the works, organized a calendar of events to deepen and expand the debate on NFT and crypto-art that will concern themes such as the relationship between crypto-art and technology, the potential of artificial intelligences and the potential and problems of the crypto economy but also meetings with the artists on display and collectors.
The best part is that the exhibition itself is part of a more extensive statement on the nature of the art that is going on stage at the DART: next to the NFT exhibition, in fact, there is also an exhibition of "traditional" art dedicated to the works of artists such as Caravaggio and Guercino and present in historical private collections throughout Italy. The idea is to give the same weight, in the same museum space, to classic art collecting and to that of the future – a type of operation that is in itself very "meta" and that represents an interesting reasoning on the nature of creativity and on the evolution of artistic techniques in a country, like Italy, where contemporary life almost always takes place alongside the constant presence of history and the past.
