Photographer Julien Boudet's first solo exhibition
A travel diary in the world of consumerism at the time of Covid-19
January 15th, 2021
Tout est Bleu is the name of the first solo exhibition entirely dedicated to the works of photographer and artist Julien Boudet – a travel diary made from images and sculptures in which Sète's original creative, Occitania, France's second most important port after Marseille, investigated the influence of Western consumerism on Mediterranean culture, in which many of the renowned icons of street culture are revisited and projected onto distorted luxury cars. To compose his new series, Boudet traveled to Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, countries where there were no restrictions, and observed how the ubiquitous logos of luxury appeared in the daily life of these countries.
Boudet's work investigates intersections of consumerism, technology, culture, and media. Highlighting and recontextualizing luxury brands, his photos paint labels as the object of desire, not celebrating consumption but treating these elements as natural parts of our lives. The duality between real and false, between counterfeit and authentic luxury, are recurring themes for the artist who began to create and incorporate materials into his work to highlight the paradox of counterfeit fashion as a result of hyper-consumerism. The artist analyzes and recontextualizes the idolatry of branding, blurring the link between true and false, through the filter that together aestheticizes and irks, offering a creative interpretation of the codes of luxury.
