Sotheby's will host the largest ever Supreme auction
1306 Supreme accessories will be auctioned off in Hong Kong
May 9th, 2019
Sotheby's - the notorious London-based auction house - is preparing for The Supreme Vault: 1998 - 2018, the largest auction in the history of Supreme items. The auction will be held at end of May at the Sotheby's Hong Kong house, it will be preceded by an exhibition 24th - 28th of May at the HART Hall gallery.
The collection is the complete set of the accessories produced by Supreme by 2018 (1306 in total) of Yukio Takahashi - manager of the resell website Bazamn. The collection includes the rare Stern Pinball machine, Everlast boxing series, Coleman Motorbike, and over one thousand other items ranging in price and rarity. Among the most awaited pieces are the 2018 pinball machine, the bag and gloves produced in collaboration with Everlast, the Fender electric guitar and the Coleman minibike. The total estimated value is around 2 million of dollars.
The world of Supreme's accessories is the perfect scenario to understand the creative mind of Supreme's founder James Jebbia. He always surprised the fanbase with creative and unpredictable products, playing with boundaries of culture and taking inspiration from the ready-made art of Duchamp and Manzoni.
The Takahashi's collection was showcased in the "Inferno" exhibition last fall along with Ryan Fuller’s complete collection of Supreme skate decks, that was sold in Sotheby's auction for 800,000 dollars in February. A legit question that pops in my mind is: why the two largest Supreme's collectors are selling their goods now? After reaching the mainstream of fashion, the legal battle against Supreme Italia and the acquisition by Carlyle group in 2017, is this the prove that Supreme has reached the hype spike?
Online bidding will be open from May 20, 10 am HKT – May 28, 11 am HKT. Visit Sotheby’s auction page for more information, and stay tuned as we’ll be reporting on the final sale prices.
