Sunday Escape - Cybertecture Egg
The blend of iconic architecture, environmental design and intelligent systems engineering in Mumbai
April 16th, 2017
"In the 21st Century, buildings will be different from 20th Century, they are no longer about concrete, steel and glass, but also the new intangible materials of technology, multimedia, intelligence and interactivity. Only be recognizing this will bring a new form of architecture to light namely a Cybertecture".
Words of James Law, a visionary designer at the Hong Kong eponymous study Cybertecture International that has been studying the balance between space and technology to an integration of the architectural world with the new digital technologies.
His latest project is a futuristic egg-shaped structure called Cybertecture Egg, a perfect example of the blend of iconic architecture, environmental design, intelligent systems engineering. The building, commissioned by Vijay Associate (Wadhwa Developers), is located in Mumbai, India and has an area of 32,000 square meters which houses 13 floors of offices and a garden on the roof, which helps to cool the construction down using the natural vegetation. The egg is thought to be as self-sufficient as possible: it has solar panels and wind turbines on the roof to reduce energy consumption, also recycles waste and gray water harvesting for irrigation.
The real innovation? An internal intelligent system that allows employees to customize views from their desk to show anywhere in the world and see real-time scenery from across the globe, but also a health monitoring system installed in all bathrooms that will keep track monitors of functions such as blood pressure and weight (which if necessary will be sent directly to the doctor).
Too invasive? Maybe, but behind the choice of James Law it is hiding the idea of the world understood as an ecosystem to enable the evolution of life, as emphasized the egg shape.
Ready to live in the future?
